Around & Around opener-cool idea then 3 ballads Dire Wolf , Bobby McGee, Sugaree Mexicali-a little Polka Here Comes Sunshine- First time I really

hear Donna Jean in the mix. Somehow the song does not have the same jump it had in 73. I really wish they had tinkered with it in the studio because it was such a powerhouse. Good jam but nowhere near what they were getting out of this tune in 73. And by the time they came back with it-awww never mind. Always thought they could have rode HCS>WRS. that would be a good 1/2 hour of grateful dead BIODTL-Going down the line,, Phil bringing some backing vocals.and Jerry as well. Bob and Donna getting their pronouns together. -Nice Keith solo Ship of Fools-one of the best things about 74 and to me this was the peak year for this tune. I love this tune in the 1st set. Jack Straw-I would like to hear more umph here and some kinda jam before the final verse. Good to hear Phil on that last chorus. Deal-Good hope they get back to the AroundX2 rocking tempo. When in doubt -Dance it out! Promised>Bertha>Greatest- Now that's the sweet spot! great way to close out 1st set.

Epic set all 'round!
Youtube brought me here as well. Spectacular version of Here Comes Sunshine. That's one epic Jerry solo right there! I was just telling someone how I love

the semi-tired, folky rock Dead shows, speaking of this set in particular. It definitely picks up in some places, but just enough that it's more comforting than overwhelming. I must say this may just make it to my favorites list.

This whole run is magic
This run at Winterland (22,23,24) are just so underrated and are all well worth a listen. So many highlights in this show but for me The Other One is
...
one of my favourite versions with some out of this world jams and Phil doing strange things to your brain. Jerry had been tinkering with Slipknot riffs for a while (See Eyes on 6-20-74, Playing on 2-22-74) but at around the 14 min. mark of OO he launches into a full blown Slipknot. Just gorgeous. Other high points include a beautiful HCS, a very hard-rocking GSET and a stunning WRS with some great jazzy jams during the Let it Grow section. The He's Gone is well above average and the Eyes is a spectacular rendition. Like I said, listen to this whole run - you will not be disappointed!
